Grapes Harvest tapestry (ME034)
The Grapes Harvest tapestry is the other half of the famous Vintage tapestry woven in Flanders in the late 15th century. It is now exhibited at the Cluny Museum in Paris. We see the lord and lady inspecting the grape harvest (Vendange) and the pressing of the grapes. Note two interesting elements of the design which correspond to the date of the tapestry weaving – Mille Fleurs (thousand flowers) in the foreground as in so many 15th century tapestries, and the inclusion of the sky creating perspective as generally seen from the early 16th century. The Grapes Harvest is a fine wool and cotton tapestry from a long-established French weave. It is lined with a rod pocket for easy hanging.
